We attended on 14th and 15th June the International IP Enforcement Summit organized by the European Union, the EUIPO and the Patent Office of Bulgaria, in the National Palace of Culture in Sofia, Bulgaria.
The summit gathered the main European and international authorities in charge of decision making, law-enforcement authorities, multinational companies, small and medium enterprises, consumers representatives and other stakeholders to debate on how increase intellectual property rights protection and enforcement in the EU and around the world.
The meeting approached innovative solutions to fight against intellectual property offences and it was highlighted the importance of consumer education and awareness raising about the real risks of counterfeit products to change certain behaviours, with special consideration to initiatives addressed to young consumers. According to a new survey about European citizens perspective of intellectual property, published by the EUIPO, 1 out of 3 European (31%) considers acceptable buying counterfeit products when the original price is high, being half of them (50%) young consumers, between 15 and 24 years old.
