Located in the heart of Europe, the University of Strasbourg (UNISTRA) is heir to a great tradition born of the humanism of the 16th century when Jean Sturm created an institution where one could study theology, philosophy, medicine and law. UNISTRA is one of the largest universities in France, with more than 52 000 students (including 20 % of international students).
UNISTRA offers 60 international degrees in partnership with universities around the world. The University is involved in 17 Erasmus+ projects including 2 Erasmus Mundus master degrees, 5 Erasmus + strategic partnerships, a knowledge alliance, and a Jean Monnet centre of excellence. Research is a major asset for the University’s international development.
UNISTRA has 71 research units that encompass all disciplinary fields. A centre of excellence in biology, biotechnology, medicine, chemistry and material physics, the University also actively participates in the development of social sciences and humanities. Numerous prestigious prizes have been awarded to our world-class researchers, testifying of the quality of the research at the University of Strasbourg, including: 4 Nobel Prizes, 1 Kavli Prize and 21 researchers honored by the European Research Council since 2008.
At UNISTRA the project will be implemented by the Center for International Intellectual Property Studies (CEIPI). CEIPI is a constituent part of the University of Strasbourg devoted to research and training in the domain of intellectual property. CEIPI faculty is composed of almost 400 academics and practicing attorneys in 22 countries and 41 cities in Europe. For more than 50 years, CEIPI has been training more than 50 000 professionals and students in the intellectual property field.
CEIPI offers various diplomas (awarded by the University of Strasbourg) in initial or vocational training, whose objective is to prepare engineers, scientists or legal practitioners for professional examinations in industrial property as well as students for the professionally oriented Master of Laws (equivalent LLM). Since CEIPI’s creation, its mandate has been to train specialists in intellectual property law in various professions: French and European legal representatives, attorneys specializing in intellectual property, officials of national, European and international organizations and offices and academics. Moreover, the CEIPI regularly organises conferences on different aspects of EU intellectual property law.
CEIPI Research Department is a dynamic team with a strong record of individual and collective work in the field of EU IP Law. The team is composed of 20 academics and 24 doctoral candidates working in a wide range of disciplines in IP law. The CEIPI team has a strong and widely recognized expertise in all the fields of Intellectual Property, including: counterfeiting, patents and supplementary protection certificates, trademark law, design law, copyright, denominations of origin, geographical indications, plant varieties protection, protection of trade secrets, enforcement of IP rights.
